| recap: next big thing 2009 in tampa bay |
[12-8-09 at 11pm] |
(mods, please delete my last post from the queue and use this one... I hit enter too soon on the other one!)
I have my recap up for the Tampa Bay show, which was Next Big Thing on 12/6. It's really short compared to the other one... the only band I really took pictures of was Panic!, because my pics from the Buzz Bake Sale show were so poor, and I barely took any other pictures of the other bands, just enjoyed the show!
( preview of pictures )
And a video... probably my favorite part of the entire set:
And, the LINK TO THE FULL POST!
None of these pictures are tagged... I'd really rather NOT have to tag my pictures, but I will if I find people stealing them and claiming them as their own (as has happened in the past). And so, as always, you are welcome to use any of the video or pictures that I post, just PLEASE CREDIT! You don't even have to tell me you're taking them, just credit them back to me, PLEASE! Please refer to this post if you have any questions about usage of my photos.

| recap: buzz bake sale 2009 in west palm beach |
[12-8-09 at 10pm] |
I posted a recap of the entire Buzz Bake Sale show over in my journal... the entry can be found over here, and will remain unlocked for a couple of weeks. The full recap is incredibly long and picture heavy (there were a lot of bands) although I did post some as thumbnails... but dial-up users, beware!
Unfortunately, the pictures from the Panic! set at this show didn't come out very well, so I'm not going to cross-post them here... if you're interested, you can find them on my journal.
But here's a little video I got, of Brendon talking just before New Perspective:
I'll have my Tampa Bay recap up in an hour or two hopefully, I'm just waiting for the pictures to upload, and those came out much better because the light was better.

Name: Gina Age: 22 Location: California How long have you been stenciling? On and off since I met my boyfriend so, nearing 3 years. Where do you stencil? canvas, clothes shoes boxes, aha. I've never sprayed my stuff on the street, but I have been on several adventures with others. Anything to share? My boyfriend got me into stencil work. I don't have any recent pictures of my stencils and they're not very good anyhow. I mostly do freehand flowers because I'm not patient enough to work with computers. I always feel accomplished after I spray though.

I'm selling some FOB merch, brand new, still sitting in plastic packaging! I opened the plastic to look at the clothing but it was too big on me, didn't even try it on. The hoodie is a men's Large, and the tees are both men's Medium, and all are American Apparel. The pics are stock photos & I used them because they are exactly the same. Take a look and please make an offer, thanks!

I have a BIG stack of Panic! promo stickers from “Pretty. Odd.” that I definitely do not need. Each sticker is roughly 4” long and 2” high, and look like this:
(sorry, bad photo from my phone!)
I'll throw a couple in an envelope if you want them... completely free, I just want to get these out to people who actually want them. I don't have many stamps at the moment (holiday cards, y'know), so I'll send out as many now as I can, and get the rest out in the next week or two.
If you want a few stickers, send me an email with the subject "panic stickers" to mescestmoi@gmail.com. If you have some pressing need for more than two or three stickers (you're getting some for you and your friends or whatever), let me know that, too. You MUST live in the USA, sorry.
SORRY GUYS! I didn't expect to get such a flood of emails! I'm out right now (seriously, 70 stickers gone in like 10 minutes, awesome :D). If I can find more stickers, I'll post here again with them.

| My Chemical Romance Slam Fame-Hungry Musicians on New Album |
[11-30-09 at 1pm] |

After going the concept route -- or at least making a linear work on 'The Black Parade' -- My Chemical Romance are going in another direction on their forthcoming album, due early next year. Spinner visited the group in their L.A. studio to get an early preview and we were left suitably blown away by the nine very disparate songs we got to hear. The tracks ranged from the atmospheric 'Light Before Your Eyes,' a song frontman Gerard Way describes as Pink Floyd-ish, to the '80s-flavored 'Trans Am' and the punk/dance party tune, 'Death Before Disco,' which starts off with a Judas Priest 'Living After Midnight' vibe and turns into a lyrical salute to the Stooges, Velvet Underground and MC5.
Way tells Spinner the as-yet-untitled album is a definite answer to 'The Black Parade.' "Every single record we make is a response to the last," he says. "But sometimes it's not only a response to the last record -- it's a response to the opinion of that record or a response to the world at the time of that record."
What he sees and documents on the new album is a lot of rockers who are in music for the wrong reason. "There's a definite undercurrent of fame versus working class, people having stuff handed to them with zero talent versus working class kids that start a band," he says. "Rock 'n' roll is not red carpets and MySpace friends -- rock 'n' roll is dangerous and rock 'n' roll should piss people off. Right now, there's not a lot of that happening. What it is is a lot of people trying to be famous. That seems to be the goal."
In Way's opinion, that desire to be famous is messing up the sanctity of rock ''n roll. "It's bled into rock. It came from other places, but it's bled into rock 'n' roll and kind of tainted it a bit," Way says. "This record is really a response to that as well."
MCR certainly have the resources and notoriety to bask in that fame as well, so how do they resist that temptation? "Instead of us panicking and trying to see where we can grab the money or grab the opportunity, we just wrote music instead," Way says. "We tried to write a great record; that was our response to things. I think that writing a great record will sell records these days, as opposed to doing every other f---ing thing that people seem to be doing to sell a record."

Post Anticipated: Albums we're still anticipating from last year's Most Anticipated issue
PANIC! AT THE DISCO You can't really blame Panic! At The Disco for needing an extension to finish their third album. After all, half of the band left this past summer. "Our band went through a transition which was definitely the right thing for everybody involved," says drummer Spencer Smith. "But we're definitely back on track now." Smith and frontman Brendon Urie have been focusing their efforts on the album for the past several months, only playing a few sporadic shows so the record can be released by summer. "There are a bunch of songs that are more or less done and others that are still at a rough stage with lots of potential," says Smith. "It's still going to be very 'Panic.' There are elements of everything our fans love worked into what we're writing, but it's another step in the evolution of our band."
